The Masters of my Cartoon Universe!

Everybody loves cartoons. From Tom and Jerry to Bart Simpson, we all have our favorite cartoon characters. Some of us outgrow them, and some of us (like me), do not. I spend a lot of my free time watching 'old school' cartoons on YouTube. It's like traveling back in time and feeling like a kid again. Cartoons had a huge influence on me during childhood. I give credit to the vintage robot animes for introducing me to the world of drawing. Cartoons opened up a whole new world for me. A world of wonder and creativity. And drawing my favorite characters was my way of being immersed in their cell-shaded universe. If my childhood could be summed up in two words, it would be cartoons and toys. I know it sounds pathetic. But growing up as the only boy with two older sisters, I had to be self-sufficient when it came to entertaining myself.
Here's my list of 'Old School'
Cartoon Favorites:
1.He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
2.The Transformers
3. Voltron
4. M.A.S.K
5. Thundarr the Barbarian
6. Scooby Doo (the one without Scrappy Doo-he's annoying!)
7. G.I Joe
8. Silverhawks
9. Richie Rich
10. Superfriends

Valentines Day

This pic was taken during our post-Valentines date at Ding-Hao, the best dimsum place in town. We had a lunch date at Krua Thai the day before(Valentines), savoring delicious Thai dishes. We capped off the night playing cards at my Baby's place until late in the evening. A perfect Valentine date!

My Adopted Son

See the boy in the pic? Not the one in the beige shirt, that's me (duh!). The boy in the red is Joy. Actually, his real name is Fernando. I changed it to Joy because everytime you ask him his name, he replies with 'Fernando po' (Fernando Poe, get it?). Joy is my adopted son. Well, sort of. I send him to school, give him his baon, provide him clothes, feed him (this boy can eat!), buy him presents on Christmas and give him parental advice when needed. In return, he helps out around the house. He helps me wash my car, shine my shoes, run errands (buy stuff at the sari-sari store) and feed our two flea-infested mongrels. So does this make me a surrogate parent? One thing for sure though, it's no easy job bringing up a kid. You have to be strict and firm, yet patient and sensitive. It's a lot of fun though, especially when I see the positive influence I have on this kid. His grades are improving, he is obedient and courteous, and growing up with direction in his life. He's come a long way from being the skinny- scrawny-malnourished-sun burned-little shrimp who showed up at my doorstep from Tagum a couple of years ago.
The best part of having Joy around though, is that I get to practice my parenting skills. Which I can put to good use in the future when I become a real dad.

How much is that Doggie in the window?

Nice doggie huh? this bulldog will cost you around 30,000 PhP. That's right, purebred dogs are expensive. Especially those with pedigree papers. The closest I got to owning a purebred was about 5 years ago, when i adopted a stray half basset hound-half dachsund. Before that, all my dogs have been pure mongrels.
Here is my list of my All-Time favorite Dog breeds:
1. Basset Hound- The Basset Hound is a very calm and companionable breed. They are an especially loyal breed known for their pleasant disposition and emotional sensitivity. Around strangers, Bassets are friendly and welcome the opportunity to make new friends. For this reason they are an excellent pet for families with children and other pets. In fact, it is recommended that since Bassets are "pack" animals, if the Basset must be left alone on a daily basis during the daytime while the family is away, a second pet in the family will keep a Basset out of "trouble". Bassets hate to be alone.
2. Great Dane- The Great Dane's large and imposing appearance belies its friendly nature; the breed is often referred to as a gentle giant. Great Danes are generally well-disposed toward other dogs, other non-canine pets, wild animals, and humans (including strangers and children). However, some Great Danes have dominance issues, are aggressive with other dogs of the same sex, or chase small animals.
3. Bulldog- The bulldog is a relatively small but stocky breed, with a compact body and short, sturdy limbs. Its shape results in a waddle-like gait. Bulldogs are known for their short muzzles and the saggy skin on their faces, creating the apparent "frown" that has become a trademark of the breed. Bulldogs come in a variety of colors and ideally have a smooth, short coat.
4. Pug- Pugs are very sociable dogs, but quite stubborn. They are playful, charming, and clever, and are known to succeed in dog obedience skills.[1] Pugs are sensitive to the tone of a human, so harsh punishment is generally unnecessary. Pugs get along well with other dogs and pets and require lots of attention;
5. Beagle- The Beagle has a very good temper and gentle disposition. Beagles are intelligent, but are stubborn and may be hard to train due to their strong will, which is common in the breed because of its curiosity (especially for scents). However, if a newly-bought puppy has a dominant master in control, they can be easy to train and can obey basic commands. They are an especially loyal breed and are very friendly.

My Next Watch

I've always been a watch person. Ever since I was a kid, I remember having this fascination about watches. My mom bought me a transforming robot watch and my dad got me the calculator watch. I have since outgrown digital watches, and have set my eyes on quality swiss timepieces. My very first decent watch was a Tag Heuer formula 1 watch my dad gave me 10 years ago. I remember getting so excited when my dad purchased the watch at the Frankfurt airport duty free shop in Germany, while waiting for my flight back home from a long vacation there. I now wear the latest Tag Heuer formula 1 model I bought myself. It's got a bigger face than my previous F1, and it's chronograph. I really like my watch, but since it's become such a popular model, you can now find many F1 fake knock-offs at the mall. Still, there's nothing like the original. I am now very interested in another Tag Heuer model, the Aquaracer. But what's really next on my list, is the watch you see in the attached pic. The Philip Stein Teslar watch. Oprah Winfrey wears one, and so does Kris Aquino. It supposedly emits an electronic frequency that promotes wellness by releasing positive energy to those who wear it. Heck, I just like it for it's looks. It is a bit pricey though. The low end models will set you back a thousand buckaroos. And they even have diamond encrusted ones! Anyway, in about 30 years I should be able to afford one.

An Ode to my Family

Would you believe that I haven't seen my eldest sister Marcy in 15 years? 15 friggin' years!!! Not that I'm incredibly enthusiastic about seeing her, she's still the same old ate Marcy to me. But still, she's my sis, and 15 years is a loooooong time. I have yet to see my nephew David and nieces Chelsea and Jessica (see pic). Some people probably think my family is screwed up or something. Not screwed up, just complicated. You see, half of my family is based in the U.S, and the other half is in Thailand. And I'm the long lost son/brother/nephew/uncle stuck here in the Philippines. I've always missed my family, but it's a situation I have learned to live with. But now that my Lola (who has been my family for the past 15 years) has passed away, I feel more alone than ever. I thank my girlfriend Irish for being there to keep me sane. She's been wonderful, my source of strength in times of weakness. But family is family. And it's been a long while since I've felt like I belong in one. Sometimes I start thinking I've become this cold, heartless person. Able to withstand life without the security and warmth a family provides.
Still, I have a lot to be thankful for. And maybe someday, in the near future, I will get to celebrate the holidays with my siblings again. Like a normal family should.

KILLERBEE 89.1FM

YOU KNOW YOU'RE A KILLERBEE D.J WHEN...
...You don't like answering the phone and taking requests from PSYCHO callers.
...You hate it when smelly high-school kids enter the booth and ask you stupid questions like 'what's your air-name kuya?'
...You consider 'kwek-kwek', 'isaw' and 'fishballs' from across the street as a fancy meal.
...You start fidgeting when a pretty female celebrity suddenly walks in for an unexpected on-air interview.
...You always take a snap-shot with the pretty celebrity you've just interviewed to show off on your friendster account.
...You come up with the lamest excuses for being late for your boardwork.
...You know how to begin your adlib, but you have trouble ending it.
...You hate it when the DJ before you plays all the good songs, and you end up with the sucky ones.
...You ALWAYS check your friendster account while working.
...You screw up your adlibs whenever the Station Manager is in the booth with you.

If you love me, buy me this:

The Gilbert Arenas Gil Zero. by Adidas. by the way, I'm a size 9 US. hehe...

Gilbert Arenas: Agent 0

My favorite NBA player. A starter for the All-Star game, he is the #2 scorer in the league and has led the Washington Wizards with the best record in the East. An underdog all his life, he has finally gained the respect of NBA players and fans alike.

Here I Go Again...

One excellent way of making your blog useful is to make it work for you. So for today's blog, I'm including my list of....
Things to do for the month of February:
1.Take pictures for the YADCOM-RHR website
2.Finish typing the material for YADCOM-RHR website
3.Have my car washed
4.Get the $500 from doctor you know who
5.Contact my dad regarding trip to Thailand for the visa thing
6.Work out at the gym at least 3 times a week
7.Prepare for Valentines day (flowers, chocolates, stuffed toy, etc.)
8.Valentines Day
9.Get a Massage
10.Repair septic tank
...I know, the 'Repair septic tank' thing sort of ruined everything. Actually, that should be first priority. Valentines Day is pretty much up there too. I'm thinking about dinner at a japanese restaurant with my baby. In case you're wondering what YADCOM-RHR is all about, it's a non-profit non-government organization I'm involved in. We are a group of young (me? young?) artists focused on youth reproductive health issues such as AIDS, STD's and teenage pregnancy. Pretty serious stuff. Look out for www.yadcomrhr.com soon.
Guess there's more to me than meets the eye, huh?

Wow! My very First BLOG!!!

Alrighty then, where should I start.... Hmmmm.... I'm sitting here at work, specifically the DJ's booth, trying to pass the time. Don't get me wrong, a DJ's job is no easy task by any means, but if you've been in the business for as long as I have, it can become a routine. Talk a bit, Play some songs, Talk again, Play commercials, Talk again. You get the idea. I would'nt trade it for any other job in the world though. I've been hearing so much about this blogging thing that finally, I decided to give it a try. Thanks to Ainee, my co-DJ, for opening my eyes to the wonders of Blogging. That girl has Blogging down to an art. Oh well, here goes nothing...
